Things feel different, and better, because they are. Voting speaks louder than any rhetoric, even mine. Your vote for change in board membership last September, coupled with the resignation of board members Jim Crowley and Cathy Johnan for personal reasons, gave Zena Rec. Corp. a new, dedicated group of hard-working board members. For tennis, it meant a commitment to the tennis program that did not exist before. Tennis was like a distant relative, someplace through the meadow and over the trees. Jim Davis and his dedicated group of tennis players kept the adult tennis program, including the Arranged Mixed Doubles, alive and thriving, albeit in the privacy of the courts. The junior tennis program, run by tennis pro Pete Zeeh assisted by bond-holder Kathy Birchfield, was a separate entity entirely. This year, using a new bookkeeping system devised by our treasurer Craig Stephens, we'll be able to keep better track of the monies brought in from the junior tennis program which we are diligently trying to build up. At the same time, as children age out of that, our hope is they will continue to play tennis here at the club in the Arranged Mixed Doubles. Tennis is a great sport for everybody, particularly children. It's portable, doesn't require a large investment of money, and best of all, it's a lot of fun. For those of you who are a bit older (adult) and want to try it out, Pete Zeeh is arranging a private tennis clinic for you. You can also sign up for the arranged matches through the tennis mailing previously sent out. Social committee chair Claudia Johnson is actively coordinating dates with me, so all tennis functions -- buffets, Marguerita nights, Brad Pitt's personal appearance (just kidding!) -- will be included in the calendar of events for the entire park. By the way, that billboard announcing everything in the park when you come in is Claudia's idea. It's brilliant and long overdue. Take a look at the rest of the information here. If you have any questions, send up the Bat Signal. But don't be surprised if Tony Stark responds; I'm really a Marvel guy -- Fred Rosen, Tennis Committee Chair. |
